Why Custom Fitting Matters

The putter is THE most important club in your bag for lowering your score. A properly fitted putter promotes:

Consistent pre-putt setup

Improved stroke path

Better overall performance on the green

When fitting your Ontic putter, we focus on two critical measurements:

Lie Angle - affects alignment and stroke path

Length - ensures proper posture and eye position

DIY Fitting Guide

What You'll Need:

A friend to help with measurements

Your current putter

A golf ball

Tape measure

Smartphone with an angle measurement app (or an angle gauge)

Tip: If you don't want your spouse to know you're getting a new putter, don't ask them for help. It's better to keep it a secret for now! 😉

Step 1: Measuring Lie Angle

Stand in your normal putting stance with your current putter

Grip the putter as you would for a typical putt

Using your smartphone app or angle gauge, place it on the shaft of the putter

Record the angle

Take at least three measurements for accuracy

Step 2: Measuring Length

Identify the crease line where the top of your wrist meets the palm of your hand

Mark this crease line on the grip of your current putter

Using the tape measure, measure from this mark down to the sole of the putter

Repeat this measurement three times for consistency

Calculating Your Measurements

Lie Angle Calculation

Add all measurements together and divide by the number of measurements

Round to the nearest whole degree

Example:

First Measurement: 70.1°

Second Measurement: 68.2°

Third Measurement: 67.7°

Average: (70.1° + 68.2° + 67.7°) ÷ 3 = 68.6°
Round to nearest degree: Final lie angle = 69°

Length Calculation:

Round each measurement up to the nearest quarter inch

Add all measurements together and divide by the number of measurements

Round to the nearest quarter inch

Add 1/4 inch to this number for your final length

Example:

First Measurement: 34 1/4"

Second Measurement: 34 3/8" (rounds to 34 1/2")

Third Measurement: 34 3/8" (rounds to 34 1/2")

Average: (34.25" + 34.5" + 34.5") ÷ 3 = 34.42"
Round to nearest 1/4": 34.5"
Add 1/4": Final length = 34 3/4"
